A Journey Begins in Lisbon

 A Journey Begins in Lisbon

There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when you arrive in a new city just before sunset. I felt it for the first time in Lisbon — the way the cobbled streets catch the golden light, the scent of grilled sardines floating from a nearby tasca, and the distant hum of a tram creaking up one of the city's impossibly steep hills.

This was the moment I knew Europhile Explorer had to exist.

Lisbon wasn’t my first stop in Europe, but it was the first city that slowed me down. I arrived expecting a quick three-day itinerary of must-sees and photo ops. Instead, I found myself sipping vinho verde on a rooftop in Alfama, listening to an old man sing fado from an open window. No agenda, no checklist — just presence.

That’s what this blog is about:
Slowing down. Getting lost. Finding stories between the landmarks.

From the candlelit wine cellars of Porto to late-night conversations in Berlin hostels, I’ve come to believe that Europe isn’t just a collection of countries — it’s a layered experience of culture, contradiction, and curiosity. The kind you don’t always find in guidebooks.

Through Europhile Explorer, I’ll share travel stories that go beyond the typical top 10 lists — the off-the-map cafés, the misadventures, the moments that made me pause. Whether you’re planning your first trip across the Atlantic or have a passport full of EU stamps, my hope is to inspire you to explore a little deeper.

Next up: chasing Roman ghosts in Provence, France. But for now, I’ll leave you with this —
Sometimes the best journeys start with no plan at all… just a sunset, a suitcase, and a bit of curiosity.
